a Skinnie Dipping Life

There’s nothing We adore more
than that fresh newborn feeling,
As We rush into warm watered lakes & lagoons
before light falls

But with a soda bread belly,
our insecurities bite us in the bum
then frighten us
into not partaking in those
fun-filled festivities
We usually could never live without.  

Vulnerably now nude & with nowhere to hide,
next steps, please be quickly shortened down to two:

1.    Recall the advice of our loonie uni drama professor:

All we’re trying to do here is, get you out of your own way.”

Truthfully, We are the only ones stopping ourselves from jumping in feet first today. All the other bathers here are busy thinking about with their own biggie problems to even notice us. No one has the time, but everyone has an ego that is hopefully distracting them from ours. With this realization We’re ready to step aside & start to enjoy what We came ‘here’ to do.

2.    Bid Adieu to extra breads, biskkies & bon bons after toweling & gasp a grateful, Oh Mon Dieu! to dainty, delicious (& healthier) dips instead, as to try & prevent this icky self-loathing feeling from returning tomorrow.

Freedom is getting out of your own way, while still planning for the future.

White Bean Hummus (Left), Olive Tapenade (Corner with 2 Crackers), Chia-Chickpeas (Top)

Chia-Chickpea Spread

2 cups cooked chickpeas (washed & drained)
2 cloves garlic finely chopped
2-3 swigs of olive oil.
3 tbsp chia seeds.

In a blender add all your ingredients, combining olive oil a bit at a time. Blend until desired texture.

White Bean Hummus

2 cups cooked white beans (washed & drained)
2 cloves garlic finely chopped
¼ tsp cumin
¼ tsp chilli powder
2 tbsp chopped parsley
2-3 swigs olive oil

In a blender add all you ingredients, combining olive oil a bit at a time. Blend until smooth & savoury.

Olive Tapenade

1 can pitted black or green olive
2 cloves garlic finely chopped (less if not a garlicy fan)
2 tbsp capers
2-3 swigs olive

In a blender....You know the drill.
